Spend today exploring some of the city’s most significant historical sites. Nestled between mountain and desert, it’s unsurprising to find that Marrakech is a city of contrasts. The bustling atmosphere of the Djemaa el-Fna is far removed from the tranquillity of the many beautiful gardens, and the Medina’s intricate medieval streets wonderfully contradict the wide, tree-lined boulevards of the New Town. Everywhere, the city’s infectious charm shines through. Today you’ll begin with the Majorelle Gardens. Designed and created by French artist Jacques Majorelle, these 12-acre gardens were eventually bought by Yves Saint-Laurent and Pierre Bergé who rescued them from being destroyed to make room for a hotel complex, and restored them to their former glory. The gardens showcase beautiful indigenous plant life as well as birds, ponds and splashes of vivid Majorelle blue. The Islamic Art Museum of Marrakech can also be found within its walls. Later, you’ll have the opportunity to explore enchanting Old Medina and the Kasbah fortress before visiting the Bahia Palace. Intended to be the greatest palace of its time, it captures the essence of the Islamic and Moroccan style.
